Biofuel Controversies
Since the increasing awareness of climate change and environmental safety, the world is looking for alternative energy resource. Hydrocarbon energy such as oil, coal and gas has huge carbon emission that responsible to the decreasing of our environment. Many countries have regulated the reduction of green house gas emission standards. It is leading the development of biofuel.
Biofuel is the fuel produces from biological resources using physical and chemical process. In present days, the main sources of bio fuel are corn, crude palm oil and sugar cones. Biofuel generates energy like hydrocarbon fuel but with less carbon emission. Many people believe that bio fuel is the solution for clean energy demand. Brazil is the example of the successful country that implements biofuel industry.
However, biofuel is not free from controversy. Many people doubt that biofuel is the best solution for low emission energy. The increasing demand of biofuel is leading the production of biofuel from agricultural resources. It made the price of food commodities is raising and makes it less affordable for many people. Other controversy comes out from the fact that high biofuel demand is leading to the increasing rate of land conversion to agricultural farm. More ironic, most converted land is tropical jungles. It is make some argument that biofuel produces more green house gas emission.
